FIELD NOTES

Find your tennis grip size

The handle deserves a place in your decision.

Read the size labels

U.S. stores often use inches; other listings use L0–L5. Common adult equivalents are L0 = 4 in, L1 = 4 1/8 in, L2 = 4 1/4 in, L3 = 4 3/8 in, L4 = 4 1/2 in and L5 = 4 5/8 in. Confirm the specific seller’s size chart.

Try the handle

Use the manufacturer’s selection guidance as a starting point, then hold the racquet yourself. Handle shape and covering affect the feel as well as nominal size.

Account for your overgrip

An overgrip changes the thickness you feel. Compare frames with similar setups and record your grip size and covering so you can repeat a setup you like.
